Some questions we will ask
Below are some questions that you might like to think about, which will help us to know how to help you. If you’re not sure of your answers, email us to arrange a consultation to discuss what will best fit your requirements and budget:
- Do you have a budget?
- Would you like us to edit the language in your document, to make it more stylistic and idiomatic, or do you prefer us simply to correct grammar, spelling, etc.?
- Would you like us to edit formatting, including font styles, margins, indents and page layout?
English as a second language
Many of our clients are writing academic documents in English, although English isn’t their first language. We help them to convey their expertise in the language that will best be received by the universities and other organisations/institutions reading their work.
We also help with CVs for those who are from other countries but looking for work in the UK.

What is the difference between proofreading and copy-editing?
Proofreading: making changes to grammar and spelling in order to ensure a correct use of English. We use Microsoft Word’s tracking and reviewing system. This means that you will be able to see the changes that have been made and may choose to accept or reject each change. Proofreading does not take into account style and content, which both have a large impact on language.
Copy-editing: as well as proofreading, we will improve the readability of your document by looking more closely at sentence structure, tone and accuracy. We will suggest more concise or idiomatic alternatives where appropriate, and will help you to link sentences and paragraphs together.
You may also request that we format titles, subtitles, contents pages, indents, margins, etc.
Documents in other languages
We outsource to proofreaders in several languages. If you would like us to proofread/copy-edit documents written in French, Spanish, Catalan, Italian, German or Arabic, please give plenty of notice in advance of your deadline, in order to ensure the proofreader’s availability.
